'Love Comes Quickly' was the second single from Please and was released prior to the album. It was coupled with the b-side 'That's My Impression'. Remixes for the single were done by Shep Pettibone.
For the release of 'Pop Art' in 2003, 'Love Comes Quickly' was remixed by trance gurus Blank & Jones, and two versions were released on limited edition CD and acetate that same year.
Production and Recording[]
This song was written originally between 1984-85, and has always been a pet favourite of the band. In fact they were disappointed that it did not do better in the charts than it did.
The song was written the same day as the song that became 'I'm Not Scared'. The saxophone part is played by Andy McKay from Roxy Music.
Producer Stephen Hague got co-writing credits for this song, when he helped write the chords for the bridge.
Lyrics[]
According to Neil, the meaning of the lyrics are simple:
The whole song was about how you can suddenly fall in love with someone and you can't help it. When you fall in love with someone, it's totally disruptive. You're having a comfortable life, and suddenly everything's just turned upside down. All your priorities change. But the song is also saying that, after it's happened, you suddenly realize you hadn't really been alive at all.
Sooner or later this happens to everyone to everyone You can live your life lonely heavy as stone Live your life learning and working alone Say this is all you want but I don't believe that it's true 'cause when you least expect it waiting round the corner for you Love comes quickly whatever you do you can't stop falling Love comes quickly whatever you do you can't stop falling You can live a life of luxury if that's what you want Taste forbidden pleasures whatever you want You can fly away to the end of the world but where does it get you to? 'cause just when you least expect it just what you least expect Love comes quickly whatever you do you can't stop falling Love comes quickly whatever you do you can't stop falling I know it sounds ridiculous but speaking from experience It may seem romantic and that's no defence love will always get to you Sooner or later, sooner or later this happens to everyone to everyone You can fly away to the end of the world but where does it get you? Love comes quickly whatever you do you can't stop falling Love comes quickly whatever you do you can't stop falling ----- written by Tennant/Lowe/Hague
