Background[]
One of the many songs originally worked on with Bobby Orlando in 1984-1985. It was intended to be the follow up single to 'One More Chance' on his label, but they broke ties with him before this could take place. When the band was recording for Introspective they thought this would be one of the tracks, but then decided it would be better as a b-side. The song's meaning is based on an Oscar Wilde quote: 'We are all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars'. "Originally," Neil says, "it had a funny lyric about being really excited about things..." and not about sex as the title seems to suggest. "I don't think it ever occurred to me that it sounded rude. It's never entered my head that it had any sexual connotation at all...It's about being in New York and being really excited about it. Though you've got no money and you're having a grim time you're still excited. Maybe they're excited because they're in love, but maybe they're just tourists. I just like the idea of irrational excitement."
Trivia[]
- Eric Clapton was approached to play guitar on this, but he very politely declined. Stephen Lipson plays it instead.
- There is an unused 12" remix version of this that appears on some bootlegs, most often titled the Sarm West Remix (6:12). It was intended for the limited edition vinyl release of 'Heart' but was ultimately left unused.
